Legislative
Accomplishments
- Passed Legislation to require all Illinois dwellings to be equipped with 10 -Year Battery- Smoke Detectors
- Restored full funding for Cornerstone Program, which trains 13,000 firefighters annually
- Obtained $5 Million in state funds earmarked to medically underserved areas
- Passed legislation requiring the sale of self-extinguishing cigarettes in Illinois
- Passed legislation which granted physician assistants prescriptive authority
- Passed mental health parity legislation
- Passed legislation creating the Arsonist Registration Act
- Saved the Fire Prevention Fund from a $20 million raid
- Coordinated over 70 successful legislative receptions for clients and public officials
- Passed legislation to require fire sprinklers in all dorms and fraternities/sororities
- Passed legislation to regulate the following professions for the first time in Illinois: electrologists, genetic counselors, pyrotechnic operators, surgical assistants, surgical technologists and the body art industry.
- Passed separate legislation which completely overhauled the Elevator Safety and Regulation Act and the Roofing Industry Licensing Act
- Passed Volunteer Firefighter Job Protection Act

Accomplishments
- Organization of annual Capitol press conferences including those with Latino and African American Legislative Caucuses to Raise Awareness of Blood Donation among minorities
- Organization of Statewide Blood Drive Coordinator Award Program
- Organization of dozens of blood drives at the Statehouse with promotional campaign among state employees
- Organization of annual “Badges for Life Blood Donation Campaign” between law enforcement and fire service in Sangamon and Morgan Counties
- Organized dozens of Statehouse Press Conferences, many which have received nationwide coverage
- Organized press conference at City Hall with Aldermanic Leaders of Latino Caucus
- Organized over 30 press conferences for throughout the state on behalf on fire safety issues which received major network coverage
